Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana

There are many volunteer opportunities available through Restore the Mississippi River Delta’s partner organizations. Learn more below and explore how you can help restore the coast!

Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana’s Habitat Restoration Program leads the organization’s coastal Louisiana restoration efforts by engaging volunteers and stakeholders to be part of the solution and by promoting environmental stewardship. Volunteer opportunities include marsh and dune planting, sand fence installation and coastal forest restoration. Opportunities also exist through the Oyster Shell Recycling Program, that recycles shell from participating New Orleans-based restaurants and uses that shell to restore oyster reefs and shoreline habitat across coastal Louisiana.

Pontchartrain Conservancy

Pontchartrain Conservancy offers a variety of fun, interesting volunteer events throughout the year, including the Beach Sweep, Fishing Rodeo and Northshore “Let’s Make Waves” Party. PC has also established a “Coastal Crew” of volunteers trained at the New Canal Lighthouse, who get the inside scoop on what’s going on in the basin and help spread the word by staffing information tables at fairs and festivals.

National Audubon Society

Audubon Louisiana welcomes volunteers in nearly all of their program areas. From helping one of the chapters across the state, to performing annual bird surveys, to participating in the Coastal Stewardship Program, there are many ways to contribute your time. Through the Bird Conservation Programs, volunteers engage directly in conservation by adopting an Important Bird Area in their community, participating in bird monitoring programs and getting involved in other activities designed to restore or protect these critical areas for birds.

National Wildlife Federation

The National Wildlife Federation offers an extensive array of volunteer opportunities located throughout the country, including Habitat Ambassadors, who help others learn how to garden for wildlife by hosting a table at a community event, giving a short presentation or distributing National Wildlife Federation literature, as well as Behind Scenes Volunteers, who provide NWF with administrative support at regional offices or even in your own home.

Environmental Defense Fund

Environmental Defense Fund does not offer traditional volunteer opportunities in Louisiana, however, what drives the biggest change is a groundswell of support to influence policy and industry leaders. You can further the work of EDF by signing up to receive news and urgent alerts to add your voice and influence your elected officials – it’s easy to write to them, and they need to know you support environmental action!
