LPBF Lecture Series at the Lighthouse: Patrick Smith

Date: March 29, 2017
Time: 6:00 pm
Location: New Canal Lighthouse Museum & Education Center 8001 Lakeshore Dr. New Orleans, LA 70124

Come learn about derelict crab traps, ghost fishing, and how LPBF is helping the blue crab fishery and cleaning our Basin! Derelict crab traps continue to “ghost fish”, capturing and killing many aquatic organisms. LPBF has partnered with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries during the 2016 and 2017 Derelict Crab Closures and collected over 2,000 crab traps. By some estimates, this could have saved 50,000 blue crabs per year! Presentation to be given by Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation Coastal Scientist, Patrick Smith.

Arrive by 6:00 to enjoy drinks and snacks while watching the boats sail out to race. Lecture to start at 6:30.
