Blue Crab
Found almost everywhere along Louisiana’s coast, these clawed crustaceans are a staple of Louisiana’s ecosystem and dinner table. Blue crabs are found throughout Louisiana’s estuary from the shallow, salty waters of the Gulf of Mexico, to the brackish coastal marshes, and inland, in nearly freshwater marshes. They’re economically important – the blue crab fishery in south Louisiana is the largest in the United States, supplying the country with a quarter of its blue crabs. Blue crabs remain a delicacy found on the tables of coastal homes and white tablecloth restaurants alike.
