(March 14, 2024 – Baton Rouge, La.) Today, Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) Board approved the state’s historic $1.7 billion Annual Plan for coastal spending for Fiscal Year 2025. The plan, which will now progress to the state Legislature to approve for its adoption, is the funding vehicle for authorizing spending toward new and existing projects in the state’s integrated coastal protection and restoration efforts.

Restore the Mississippi River Delta, an influential coalition of national and local organizations working to restore Louisiana’s coast, issued the following statement in response to the plan’s approval:

“Today, the CPRA Board has demonstrated its continued commitment to the people, wildlife and jobs that depend on a stronger, more sustainable Louisiana coast. The passage of this historic $1.7 billion plan in funding important projects will have a significant impact on restoring our coast and better protecting Louisiana for the future.

“With every passing year of our state’s land loss crisis, our communities face more direct impacts from stronger storms, our world-renowned wildlife habitat continues to vanish and our globally significant ports, infrastructure and other economic interests are on the front lines of sea level rise and other risks. We simply don’t have time to lose, and we look forward to continuing to work together with CPRA to prioritize protecting and restoring our coast.”

Restore the Mississippi River Delta is comprised of the National Wildlife Federation, the National Audubon Society, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana and Pontchartrain Conservancy. The coalition’s mission is to advance an equitable, safer and flourishing coast for Louisiana’s communities, ecosystems and economy.
